I am re-reading The Raven Boys on my phone to give myself an ounce of joy in life. My fun little craft store job side hustle won't give me Saturdays off so I work 7 days a week and it's f*cking with my psyche. All I have is YA media and it's all I need.

Books I've Read Recently

ree

Jackal by Erin E. Adam→ I really enjoyed the beginning of this book. I thought it was an interesting book about being black in an Appalachian town of white people, racism, and murder. This book was a good drama... and then the murder mystery happened.

And then Chris' character was stupid. The murderers didn't have a good motive and THEN the f*cking Jackal. There was absolutely no need for a god-like creature and he was not explained at all. Like what was the ending?

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater→ This book s great, I love my boys. Blue is a true icon and deserves the world. She is truly not like other girls and I love her for that.

ree

The Honeys by Ryan La Sala→ Winner of The Most Annoying Main Character Award goes to Mars "I'm Not Like Other Girls" Matthias. All I'm saying is I think Ryan saw Midsommar, forgot the plot, and took the aesthetic. Then said girls are not people just delicate little pretty things that are clean and lovely and what if they had a bee cult? For a main character who is genderfluid it seems like they really don't understand what it means to be a woman besides crop tops and makeup... uhh okay babe. 99% of this book was Mars complaining about how no one likes them because they are queer. When the book literally shows that the boy camp is fine with them if they don't act like a pretentious douchebag. But they can't wrap their thick head around the fact that not everything is about being gay.

Also, the book had like no plot and sucked ass.

That Kid From Super 8 (2011)

If you know me then you know that Super 8 is one of my favorite movies of all time. One of the 3 movies I own on DVD. To my surprise, one of the boys™ from the movie is now in a Netflix show and he is no longer a boy. Gabriel Basso is now a whopping 28 years old!

This show is bad, let's get that out of the way. We got a nice guy with a gun who works for the US government but likes he's good cus he saved a little girl from a bombing. And we got a tech girl who is not like other girls but like she's still hot and in distress. Also, there is a bad people within the US government, in the white house! AND the guy and girl kiss.

But the president is a woman. ✨WOW✨Also there is a plot about these conspiracy theorists who are blaming the good guy for the cold open subway bombing and making his life hard and also blaming his father for bad things that happened in the CIA. But I don't really get what they are going for with that. I hope it's a commentary on far-right psychos who use violence and have radical ideas but IDK cus it's not really flushed out.

And the VP's daughter is kidnapped by climate activists and they are portrayed as bad.... so that's kinda weird.

Micheal's Summer Collection

I'm not gonna trash talk a store I definitely don't work for and am pretty sure I'm not allowed to trash talk but they have new summer stuff and it's mostly plastic pink flamingos but they have some nice pots for plants. This is my segway into talking about how it's 81 DEGREES OUTSIDE!

Here are summer fun summer movies I recommend!

ree

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader: Narnia 3 aka the one when Prince Caspian has a British accent and they part the red sea. Also, the eyebrows guy from Maze Runner turns into a dragon.

We love a little fantasy movie, it's some fun for the summer.

The Way Way Back: I don't know one person who doesn't like this movie. This movie is fantastic! It's a coming-of-age movie that takes place over the summer. This awkward boy gets a job at a waterpark. The cast is great, the message is great, and Steve Carell plays a total d*ck. I highly recommend it's a great movie.

Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell, and Jim Rash are all hilarious. And Liam James plays an awkward teen well.

ree

The Sandlot: We all know it we all love it. Maybe even check out Sandlot 2 or the remake. We love baseball and we all wish to be little boys this summer.

Parting Words

Go outside, take a walk, drink some water, and plant a tree.
